Integrating Scrivener with Zotero is possible, but it’s messy to convert back and forth from Scrivener to Word and reading your work when Zotero citations are used is challenging.
Digital Tools for Writing and Researching
Reference Manager: Zotero – it’s free and open source, it’s supported by my university and integrates well with my university’s library, it has a phone app a convenient browser extension — what’s not to love?
Writing: I started trying out Scrivener, but I wished for a better connection to Zotero (see what I did to set up an integration and why I found it less than ideal on the page Connecting Zotero and Scrivener). So far, I’ve comfortably settled into just using Word.
Note taking: Obsidian – simple yet so customizable and again, easy to sync across different devices. I have this integrated with Zotero, as well. I like that I can use LaTeX with it.
Finding literature: Research Rabbit is one of my current go-tos.
Checking Citations: Recite – I am doing my PhD in Education and use the APA referencing style. This site is such a help with checking the details and catching DOIs I missed, etc.!
